Suzuki to Delist 3-Door Jimny in European Market by 2025

Suzuki announced it will stop selling of its 3-door Jimny model on the European market from the next year. The move is a an effort to address the declining sales numbers as well as strict emission standards.

Reasons for Discontinuation:

  • Emissions Levels: The current 3-door Jimny model is said to emit CO2 levels that range from 170g/km up to 154g/km. These levels surpass the average standards for emission within Europe. It has also led to concerns about compliance with the higher emission standards.
  • Market Classification: European regulations restrict the sales of cars like that of the Jimny to the category N1 which usually includes commercial vehicles that have two seats. The 3-door Jimny’s status in the commercial category within certain European nations further restricted the appeal of it and its sales potential.

Focus on BEVs:

  • Suzuki intends to focus its efforts on Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in order to comply with strict emission standards definitely. This move will provide European customers greener alternative options.
  • The firm plans to launch new vehicles that are fully compliant with European emissions standards. This will align with regional efforts to create greener transportation options.

Continued Availability of Jimny 5-Door:

  • Although the three-door Jimny is scheduled to be discontinued in Europe but the five-door model that is made exclusively in India remains to be sold in various countries.
  • The Indian-made Jimny comes with the K15B 1.5-litre gasoline engine, and with two transmissions, manual and automated choices, can continue to be sold internationally, without restriction.

The decision is Suzuki’s reaction to the regulatory issues and the demand from consumers for more environmentally friendly vehicles on the European market. The decision emphasizes Suzuki’s dedication to green mobility.
